His Board Game Across the Hall

lilywaves: oh did i explain my mystery board game yet. i dont think i did.
angel: mystery? no, i dont think you did..
lilywaves: 1.5 years ago, i lived in dorms and there was this weird shy guy who lived across the hall from me. i didnt know him that well. i forgot how it came up but i invited him to play a board game one day. the day came, i came across the hall and we played in his room. his roommates didnt seem to be home, so it was just me and him. a bit strange. anyways we played, i ended up winning the game of ticket to ride because im pretty good (swag). but he was silent a lot of the time and it was pretty awkward.

a few days later, he knocked on my door out of the blue and asked me over. i went and he showed me his tote of board games that he had. mostly classic stuff like clue, exploding kittens, stuff like that. while i was looking at some of the games, he fished a game out of the bottom of the box and handed it to me. all black with gold highlights, had the name "veiled rite" on it.

"you can have this", he said. when i asked him what its about he simply replied that he had never played it and that he got most of the stuff from his uncle. when i asked if his uncle was a big board game guy too, he looked down and didnt say anything. "as long as you dont sell it, you can have it". he stressed this point.

naturally, i agreed since i was curious about the game. i tried looking for "veiled rite board game" online and didnt find anything. i figured it must be a good diy or rare game or something. so i thought that i would show it off at my university's tabletop club. on the day of the next club meeting, a storm blew into harrisburg and i didnt want to walk to campus for club in the storming rain.

the next week, i did bring it to club but there we're only 5 people there that werent in a dnd group and they were all dead set on playing magic. the club was less lively at this point compared to past years, so it was kinda expected. i brought it back home and put it back with the rest of my board games in my closet. then, i went to pax unplugged and got a bunch of different other games and forgot about it.

one day, i met shy guy's roommate, who was a friend of a friend turns out. when i asked about shy guy, he said he mostly spends all the time outside of his few classes in his room, doesnt really talk to anyone and that he often disappears for days at a time. i never saw or talked to him again.

when i moved out of dorms, i found the game again and put it on my proper board game shelf at home. since i moved back in, ive been depressed and sapped of energy a lot of days. i have nightmares most days and i haven't really had them before. because of that, i dont have a lot of time to play board games, or any friends to do it with. so thats why i havent had time to give the game a shot since i got it. its actually first on the shelf, right next to my bedside lamp.

now that im in this group i finally have people to play it with and i have free time too. yall wanna give it a shot at our first meeting? havent even looked inside, so we can learn it together
angel: i'm super interested. seems haunted.
lilywaves: can we play it next sesh?
angel: if you want to.. show up with it and we'll play
